Between 1949 and 1951, some people of landless people from the Palashbari area on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra in old Kamrup district, along with families from Sualkuchi, Lah, Dadhi, Bathan, Bamundi, and nearby villages, migrated to the pastures along the Kalang River under the Sonapur revenue circle in eastern Kamrup. After clearing the dense forests, they laid the foundation of what later came to be known as Malaybari village. Under the leadership of the late freedom fighter Joykanta Das, settlers from Sualkuchi and Dadhi made their homes along the banks of the Kolong River near the site of the present Namghar. As followers of the Vaishnavite (religious) tradition, they sought a place for spiritual practice. In 1951, to facilitate the performance of Naam-Prasanga in the Mahapurushiya faith of Srimanta Sankardev, they constructed a Namghar using bamboo, thatch, and straw.
